Wanted to share a quick update on this. I finished stripping the paint off both of the axe heads. Sanded with 60 grit, then 100, then 400 to even out the strokes. Sharpened up the edges with a Norton sharpening stone and some oil, stripped the coating off the handles and hit them with several coats of boiled linseed oil. The pieces took on very ...

New Hickory handle and handmade leather sheath! Really big and strong axe! Sharp edge! Never been used after restoration! Weight: 2226gIt has both the Plumb and BSA insignia's on the head of the hatchet. T is some embossed writing on the handle but it's hard to make out. Overall length is 12.5 inches. A nice plumb shaped head with a nice solid hickory handle that's ready to go. It does need a sharpening and does have a few oxidation pits in it. A great work and show piece.
